{Interview} –
1} What made you decide to write Malice? How Did you come up with the title?
There are so many books out right now that are so similar. I wanted to come up with a completely unique storyline.
I’d been struggling with the title for months. As soon as I found the cover art I wanted to use, the name came to me. It just fit with the “feel” of the cover and worked well with the story.

2} What came first, the title of your book or the story within it’s pages?
The idea within. I always struggle with titles. This is the first book in a series so it took me a while to come up with three titles that went well together, yet were also relevant to the storylines.

3} How would you describe your book in three sentences?
Samara has had a crush on her best friend, Tristan, for years. A new guest at her family’s bed and breakfast is about to shake up their little town of Granite Falls. Soon, Samara’s crush on her best friend is going to be the least of her worries.

4} What made you choose to become a writer? Is it a long time passion?
Yes, writing is a longtime passion. I’ve been an avid reader my whole life. I started writing when I was in high school. I stopped writing for a bit when my kids were small. I had been working at a job where I was fortunate enough to have my summers off. I wrote Twisted (my debut novel) just for fun, over a summer vacation. I held onto it for a few years while I worked on other books. At the time, there was no such thing as self-publishing. Eventually e-readers came out and I decided to take a chance. I haven’t regretted it and only wish I’d self-published sooner.

5} Suggest five books that you think our readers should also read?
The Beautiful Creatures series by Margaret Stohl and Kami Garcia
Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead
Warriors of Ankh series by Samantha Young
Fire Spirits series by Samantha Young
**I really love Samantha Young’s paranormal stories!
Striking by Lila Felix and Rachel Higginson
That’s more than five books but I prefer paranormal and so few of them are written as standalones.

6} Do you have a favorite place you like to write?
I’m easily distracted. I can only write at home, in my office. I do keep a notebook with me everywhere I go. I’m always jotting down ideas, scenes, or lines that come into my head.

7} Do you write an outline before you wrote Malice or did you skip the outline and jump into the full story? If you used an outline, did you find it easier to write your book or harder?
When writing I usually come up with a loose version of an outline. I list out the chapters. From there I write down the ideas/scenes that have popped into my head. There ends up being a lot of cutting and pasting as I move chapters around. This method probably wouldn’t work for everybody but it has worked well for me. It’s a fluid approach and it’s easy to make changes as the story unfolds.

8} What are some of your favorite past times besides writing?
I love to read, that’s probably a given. Both of my sons are in baseball and I spend a good chunk of spring and summer going to their games. In the winter we love to go to hockey games.

9} What do you hope readers will get out of reading Malice?
A unique reading experience. There are so many books on the market right now and a lot of them are so similar. I wanted to take the storyline in a direction I hadn’t read about before.

10} Do we have a sequel to look forward too? Or some new book idea in the future?
There will be two more books in this series. Avenge will be out shortly. Defy will be out sometime this spring.
